Career Treks

The Career Trek programs are career exploration initiatives that allow students to travel to various cities in order to gain insight into career fields of interest. For Spring Break 2017, The Career Center will offer industry specific treks to Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. Spring Break 2017 Career Treks

 

Data Science and Analytics, Atlanta, GA 

The Data Science and Analytics Career Trek to Atlanta, GA is open to Notre Dame students who have a passion for working within the growing field of Big Data. The Career Center will be taking six students over Spring Break from March 12-15 for an opportunity to shadow professionals in the workplace, learn day to day operations, discuss specific jobs and career paths within each organization, and network with local alumni groups. Each visit is set up differently catering to the strengths of the organization lasting anywhere from 1-3 hours. 


Sports Industry Career Trek, Chicago, IL

The Chicago Sports Career Trek allows students to visit a number of organizations within the industry.  The Career Center will be taking 12 students this spring from March 13-14  for an opportunity to shadow professionals in the workplace, learn day to day operations, discuss specific jobs and career paths within each organization, and network with local alumni groups. Targeted areas will range from sporting consumer goods, to pro teams, to sports marketing to sports broadcasting. Each visit is set up differently catering to the strengths of the organization lasting anywhere from 1-3 hours.


LA Career Trek

Creative Hollywood Careers Exploration Trek, Los Angeles, CA 

Participants will learn about the various careers available within the Film & Television industry.  They will have the opportunity meet over 50 professionals and alumni in the industry, visit sets, explore careers, network, and present a television or film pitch to agents.  They will learn what it takes to start out and become successful in the film & television industry in LA. This industry is driven by personal networks, undoubtedly the contacts they make will be their source for their first and potentially subsequent opportunities in LA.


Hollywood & the Business of Entertainment Career Trek, Los Angeles, CA

Participants will learn about the various careers available on the corporate side of the Entertainment industry as well as exposure to the New Media industry in the Silicon Beach area.  They will have the opportunity meet over many professionals and alumni in the industry, visit sets, explore careers, network, and learn about the new digital media world in LA.  They will learn what it takes to start out and become successful in the film & television industry in LA.

Energy, San Francisco/Bay Area 

The Career Trek for Energy aims to explore several organizations within the industry that focus on different forms of renewable and alternative energy. Through these visits, participants will gain an understanding of various career paths and the range of opportunities available to all students. We are working to finalize treks hosts, but we aim to include those companies within some the following areas: wind, solar, water, electricity, natural gas, biofuel, smart grid and consulting.


DC Career Trek

Washington DC Career Trek 

This program will again be offered during Spring Break of 2017.  It gives Notre Dame students a broad overview of some of the main industries in Washington DC. Students begin to understand how the industries differ, overlap, and connect in their separate functions while meeting and talking with Notre Dame Alumni about their current jobs, career paths, and the organizations in which they work. Students are able to compare and contrast job functions, day-to-day projects, and environment between the organizations visited. They connect with multiple alumni in DC in career areas such as public policy, think tanks, the Hill, lobbying, government consulting, international affairs, law, international development, and public relations.
