Four Year Plan
First Year
- Explore resources and services in First Year of Studies
– Identify values, interests and skills with your First Year Advisor
– Meet with your advisor to discuss the process of choosing a major
- Explore resources and services in The Career Center
- Target faculty to discuss selecting a major, making career choices, and participating in job shadowing
- Attend the “All Majors Fair” during the spring semester. Check News Notes at the First Year of Studies website for dates and other related events
Sophomore Year
- Update, refine, and upload your resume to Go IRISH
- Conduct research and solicit information from professionals and upper classmen students to finalize decision on your major
- If still undecided with your major, attend the “All Majors Fair” during the spring semester. Check News Notes at the First Year of Studies website for dates and other related events
- Utilize job shadowing as a way to learn about careers of interest
- Participate in career development workshops including self-assessment, resume writing, and interviewing techniques
- Develop career-related skills (computer, writing, foreign language)
- Identify potential paid and unpaid internships
- Explore study-abroad programs
Junior Year
- Review the information found in the Internships section
- Continue to update your resume
- Decide on which industries/internships you’d like to pursue. If you need more information on industries, refer to the Vault.
- Continue to attend employer information sessions
- Schedule interviews through Go IRISH to obtain an internship (paid or unpaid)
Senior Year
- Organize job search strategies for obtaining full-time employment
– Target desired industries and determine geographical preference(s)
– Complete resume consistent with industry preference(s)
– Research and gather information on companies in chosen industries
– Attend spring and fall career fairs
– Identify companies interviewing on-campus and schedule interviews through Go IRISH
– Pursue interviews with employers not scheduled to visit campus
- Continue to attend various career-related workshops and employer information sessions
- Attend the Graduate School Forum in the fall and complete graduate school applications to meet established deadlines, if applicable
