Career Center Services
The increasingly dynamic implications of an evolving labor market have resulted in new challenges for graduate students. Traditional faculty appointments are not as plentiful as they once were, and thus the competition for these openings is intense. However, steps can be taken to enhance the odds, and there are both academic and non-academic opportunities beyond the parameters of traditional colleges and universities that are emerging. In addition, alternative careers in business and industry represent increasingly viable options for appropriately prepared graduates. Evolving technologies and processes are creating new initiatives in the corporate sector, most notably in the areas of research and development, marketing, human resources, and management.
Individualized Career Counseling
Many graduate students benefit from the opportunity to investigate a variety of career options upon completion of a Masters or Ph.D. Among the topics typically addressed in counseling sessions are:
- Resume, CV, and cover letter writing
- Interviewing techniques
- Job search strategies
- Importance of professional networks
- Identification of other University resources
Individuals who wish to investigate alternative careers, or who desire assistance with various aspects of the employment process are encouraged to make an appointment with Lisa Anderson.
