Monica Laidig

Education:   Certificate in Executive Management, Stayer Center for Executive Education, Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame.  Master of Science in Administration, Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame. Bachelor of Arts, University of Notre Dame.

Role at the Career Center:  I oversee the largest student organization on campus, the Student International Business Council (SIBC). I have been with SIBC since 2006. The SIBC offers students unparalleled real world business experience and life changing international opportunities.  Our vision is peace through commerce and we believe that business can and should make the world a better place.  SIBC and I have recently joined the Career Center and I look forward to my continued work with SIBC and working with the Career Center to continue the tradition of developing relevant, innovative, experiential opportunities for students at the University Of Notre Dame.

Professional Background:  The road not taken was for me. After college I worked in the health care industry and for a family business. When I was young I lived in Europe for a time and developed a passion for seeing the world. I have traveled to 16 different countries. Among other experiences I climbed the Great Wall of China, rode a camel through a desert, and went dune bashing in Dubai.  A global mindset and international experience are an essential element for educating the mind and heart. When we open our mind and heart to the world we receive many reminders that with our great privilege comes great responsibility. Notre Dame and SIBC have this responsibility at their center. I am proud to be a part of organizations effecting change in the world.

About me:  When I am not working or traveling I enjoy spending time with my family outdoors with our 3 dogs and 2 cats on our 25 acres south of Mishawaka.  I also love reading. A few of the interesting books I have read this year include Business Adventures by John Banks, and The End of Power by Moises Naim and I am rereading, Servant Leadership by Robert K. Greenleaf. I also love all things entrepreneurial and enjoy reading Fast Company online

Most unusual job: Most people are surprised to know that in addition to my work at Notre Dame I own and lease residential property and farm land.  I suppose it is somewhat unusual but all a part of the path not taken which makes sense to me.

What I wish I knew…. I wish I had not wasted time worrying about making the “right decision”. My father always told me “If you love what you do you will never work a day in your life”.  I love being a mother and having the family I always hoped for and I absolutely love SIBC and Notre Dame. Looking back I understand how every experience led me here.
